Saint John Port Authority

The Saint John Port Authority is an other government business enterprise, and is one of 17 Canada Port Authorities which comprise part of Canada’s national transportation system. Canada Port Authorities were created in 1998 by an Act of Parliament (Canada Marine Act) which provides an overall governance structure for their management with important local governance and control. Canada Port Authorities are required to be self-sufficient and fund their operations through the revenues that they generate and are required to provide a portion of their gross revenues to the Government of Canada’s general revenue fund.
The mandate of the Saint John Port Authority is to manage and operate the Crown’s land at the Port, provide the required port infrastructure to support maritime trade and to promote the Port of Saint John in the best interests of Canada’s domestic and international waterborne trade.
In order to foster growth and promote the Port of Saint John as a port of choice, the Saint John Port Authority partners with stevedores, terminal operators, shipping lines, suppliers, and service providers to actively market the Port.
